Towards Enhancing Girl Child Education in Nigeria: Implications for Counselling
Abstract
The paper examined issues bothering on girl child access to education and determined factors militating against girl child access to education in Nigeria. It also examined the benefits of girl child education and its multiplier effect and intergenerational benefits. It is recommended that parents, guardians and the general public should be counselled through public enlightenment/advocacy on the dangers of early marriage, prostitution and trafficking in girls, and also the benefits derivable in educating the girl child, so as to enable them contribute meaningfully to national development.
