Blackwater fever: An insight into a controversy
Abstract
The authors present a comprehensive review of the possible pathogenetic mechanisms, pathophysiology and therapeutic options of blackwater fever. The review points out some salient controversies from several studies concerning this disorder. It is concluded that despite these controversies in literature, blackwater fever should be, as recommended by the World Health Organization, considered as a severe form of malaria and treated accordingly.
