Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a Tool for Effective Performance by Academic Librarians in Edo State of Nigeria

Abstract

It is now a universally acknowledged fact that information is a vital resource for national development and success of librarians. It is the position of the authors that ICT is a tool for effective performance by academic librarians. Three university libraries in Edo State of Nigeria provided the data and institutional setting. The main data collection instrument was the questionnaire supplemented by interview technique. The major finding is that ICT has fulfilled its promise to academic librarians in Edo State of Nigeria. Guided by their findings the authors recommend that employers of labour should provide a conducive atmosphere that will enable librarians to take advantage of training and re-training opportunities.
