Barriers to Effective and Efficient Reference and Information Services in Nigerian Libraries

Abstract

In this paper Emmanuel Baro defines reference and information services in the light of modern developments. He also describes the scope of the subject. Some of the most important factors that make for effective and efficient reference and information services are equally highlighted. The factors were used to measure the effectiveness and
efficiency of Nigerian libraries in the area of investigation. The conclusion is that in most Nigerian libraries,  reference and information services are not effective. Ten reasons were adduced for this. Guided by his findings, the author proffers some recommendations for consideration.
