Spontaneous bilateral tubal ectopic pregnancy diagnosed at laparatomy: A case report
Abstract
Spontaneous bilateral ectopic pregnancy is rare in the absence of assisted reproductive techniques with estimates ranging from 1 in 725 to 1 in 1580 ectopic pregnancies. The diagnosis is commonly made intraoperativelysince clinical signs and investigations cannot distinguish it from the more common unilateral 1-2 ectopic pregnancy. We report a case of a 39 year old Para four gravida five who came with a two week history of right sided abdominal pain following 14weeks of amenorrheashe had associated abdominal distension and symptomatic anaemia requiring active resuscitation and emergency laparotomy. The findings were those of bilateral ruptured tubal ectopic pregnancies leading to bilateral salpingectomies.
