Peer Review
After the Biological and Biomedical Journal (BBJ) editor receives a manuscript, the first step is to confirm that the manuscript meets the journal’s rules for content and format, including similarity check (plagiarism) which should be less than 25%.
This journal uses a double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. Each paper will review by two reviewers.
New submissions Submitted manuscripts are assigned to a handling Editor who is responsible for its evaluation. The Editor-in-Chief’s decision regarding publication is based on the reports of referees and the handling Editor’s recommendation, which will, at the Editor-in-Chief’s discretion, be transmitted to the authors.
Upon the first submission, this reviewing process takes about 4 to 6 weeks. After reading the peer reviewer's report, the editor will decide one of the following four options:
1- Reject the manuscript. 2- Accept the manuscript 3- Ask the authors to revise and resubmit the manuscript after responding to the peer reviewers’ feedback. 4- Ask for peer review from additional reviewers
Authors will be informed of the editorial decision, on average, within a month of submission of a Regular Paper. The status of your manuscript can be checked via email. The following information must be provided during the submission stage: • Names, institutions, and email addresses of all the co-authors. • Evidence of database submission • Approval of citation of any personal communications.
General Guidelines for Reviewers:
Manuscripts submitted to BBJ journals are reviewed by at least two experts, who can be volunteer reviewers or reviewers suggested by the academic editor during the preliminary check. Reviewers are asked to evaluate the quality of the manuscript and to provide a recommendation to the editor on whether a manuscript should be accepted, requires revisions, or should be rejected.
Reviewers are invited to: accept or decline any invitations as soon as possible, suggest alternative reviewers if an invitation must be declined and request a deadline extension as soon as possible in case more time is required to provide a comprehensive report.
Potential Conflicts of Interest:
We ask reviewers to declare any potential conflicts of interest and email the journal Editorial Office if they are unsure if something constitutes a potential conflict of interest.
Reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest that may be perceived as bias for or against the paper or authors.
Reviewers are also recommended to read the relevant descriptions in the Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
Declaration of Confidentiality:
Until the article is published, reviewers should keep the content of the manuscript, including the Abstract, confidential. Reviewers should also be careful not to reveal their identity to the authors, either in their comments or in metadata for reports submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
Publication Scheduling
The BBJ publishes two issues in one volume per year.

AUTHORSHIP
Authors are required to meet the criteria for authorship as recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Requests to add or remove an author, or to rearrange the author names, must be sent to the Editorial Office and must include: (a) the reason the name should be added or removed, or the author names rearranged and (b) written confirmation (e-mail, fax, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal, or rearrangement. In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed. Any requests to add, delete, or rearrange author names in an already published article will follow the same policies as noted above and result in a corrigendum.
The submission of a paper implies the author’s assurance that the paper has not been published and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.
All authors must declare they have read and agreed to the content of the submitted article and are responsible for the validity and originality of data contained therein.
The submission should include the email and regular address of the corresponding author and all co-authors. Electronic submissions should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief as an MS-Word file.

For decades, traditional plant medicines have been utilized to treat diabetes. In traditional medicine, Origanum majorana L., known as sweet marjoram, is used to cure a variety of illnesses. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the ameliorative and antihyperglycemic effects of O. majorana leaves extract (OMLE) on the splenic tissue of diabetic rats. The following four groups (n=10) of adult male albino rats were divided as; group (Gp1) was used as the negative control. For four weeks, Gp2 had been administered OMLE (20 mg/kg b.wt) orally every day. Streptozotocin (STZ) (40 mg/kg b.wt) was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.), once, into Gp3 and Gp4. OMLE (20 mg/kg b.wt) was subsequently given orally to Gp4 only daily for four weeks. Blood glucose and insulin levels, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, reduced glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and white blood cell count (WBCs) were measured. Spleen tissues were investigated histologically. Diabetic rats had a noteworthy increase in blood glucose and MDA levels, accompanied by a noteworthy fall in plasma insulin levels, SOD, and CAT activities, white blood cell count and GSH level (p < 0.01). The findings showed that the spleen tissue of diabetic rats had many histological alterations. The biochemical indicators and histological structure significantly improved when diabetic rats were treated with OMLE. In conclusion, OMLE may have a protective effect and reduce diabetic complications in the spleen tissues of diabetic rats.
