Author Guidelines
- Anchor University Journal of Science and Technology is an official journal of Anchor University Lagos, based in the Faculty of Science and Science Education. The journal publishes original research articles and review articles from any areas of Science and Technology, and Science Education.
- Articles to be considered for publication must be original, novel, or a critical review and must have a significant contribution to knowledge.
- Manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages in length including references, Tables, Figures, graphs, charts and illustrations. They must be typed double-spaced. The font type shall be Times New Roman with 12 font size.
- Articles are sent electronically via the journal electronic submission system. However, if authors encounter difficulty during submission, articles may be submitted directly to the email: aujst@aul.edu.ng. An article should have an abstract of not more than 250 words and should be structured as follows: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions. This is followed by up to five (5) keywords that characterize the content of the paper.
- Articles sent for publication shall be subjected to a standard double-blind peer-review by two reviewers. The Editorial Board compares the reviewers’ reports before acceptability and giving out the reviewed manuscripts to the authors for corrections as recommended by the reviewers.
- Corrected manuscripts sent back for consideration are thoroughly checked to ensure that the contributors effected all the necessary corrections as observed by the reviewers before the articles are finally accepted for publications.
- All authors are responsible for the originality of the data submitted for publication and the opinions as well as comments expressed in their articles.
- The current American Psychological Association (APA) style of referencing must be adopted by the contributors.
- The journal frowns at plagiarism. Every article received is therefore subjected to standard plagiarism check. In case of discovery of plagiarism, impersonation or data fabrication, such authors shall be duly reported to appropriate authorities for further investigation and or prosecution.
- As an open access journal, copyright on Anchor University Journal of Science and Technology (AUJST) is retained by the author(s). Authors grant AUJST a license to publish the article and identify itself as the original publisher. Authors also grant any third party the right to use the article freely as long as its integrity is maintained and its original authors, citation details and publisher are identified.
- The journal publishes bi-annually, June and December.
Scope
Anchor University Journal of Science and Technology (AUJST) being a multi-disciplinary journal in line with the current global research trend is intended as a medium for communication/dissemination of important issues on scientific and technological activities. Beside full-length research articles and shorter research communications, the journal publishes review articles, survey articles, scientific correspondence and commentaries.
Some of the special areas of interest of AUJST includes (but not limited to) all areas of computing, biology, microbiology, biotechnology, mathematics, statistics, physics, electronics, chemistry, biochemistry, remote sensing, waves and symmetry, global seismology, nanomaterials, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease; molecular biology of ageing, cancer, cardiovascular diseases; global monsoon, water, transport, weather forecasting and other related subjects. The journal also accepts articles on novel Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teaching methodologies.
Manuscript preparation and submission
English language is the accepted language for submission of manuscripts to AUJST. The manuscript should be formatted in MS Word, typewritten in Times New Roman (12-point font size) and double-spaced on A4 leaving 1” wide margin on all sides. Latin names should be in italics, and S.I. units should be used for measurements or quantifications.
Title page
This contains the manuscript title and authors’ information. The title must be brief and should reflect the content of the paper. The surnames followed by other names of the authors and their affiliations are stated. The e-mails and phone numbers of the corresponding author should be provided.
Abstract
An abstract of not more than 250 words should be provided. It should be structured as follows: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions. This is followed by up to five (5) keywords.
Introduction
This section gives the background of the study, and sufficient references are properly made to earlier works. Justification and purpose of the present study should as well be stated.
Materials and Methods
This section describes detailed experimental procedure which may allow for reproducibility; that is, hypothesis, techniques and equipment.
Results and discussion
Results and discussion may be combined in a section or given separately. Results may be presented using either Tables or Figures. The discussion should present the significance and implications of the results, relating the results to previous works properly cited.
Conclusion
This section gives a conclusion drawn from the study. The conclusion should be related to the achievement of the aims and objectives of the study. Recommendations (if any) may be stated.
Acknowledgement
All grants and other supports should be acknowledged.
References
Citations in the text should follow ‘Surname and Year’ format. E.g. Kolade (2016); Evans and Juliet (2019); Evans et al. (2020); Ibraheem (2020) reported that … All references cited must be listed at the reference section:
Journals: The surnames of all authors followed by initials, year of publication, title of work, journal name, volume, issue, and pages should be given. E.g. Evans, V.N. and Juliet, O.T. (2019). Conceptual design of industrial production of potash from plantain peels. European Journal of Applied Sciences 33 (8): 19-44.
Books: Must mention the authors, publisher, place, year of publication, edition, names of editors and page numbers.
Publication charges
The authors pay an initial charge of N5,000 as manuscript processing fee. After peer review, if the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are to pay a publication charge of N10,000.
