Characteristics of linkages between the agricultural development programmes (ADPs) an universities of south eastern Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the characteristics of linkages between the Agricultural Development Programmes (ADPs) and Universities in South Eastern Nigeria. The study revealed that a web of relationships or linkages existed between the university and ADP staff, most of whom were males, well-qualified and experienced in research and extension activities. Funds for research were available to staff of both systems but mainly from personal and institutional sources. There was evidence of sufficient awareness of the major types of linkages used in sharing research knowledge. Also staff of both systems freely utilized and shared a number of linkage arrangements for their mutual research benefits. There is urgent need to beef up budgetary provisions for linkage activities to ensure increased collaboration and coordination of research efforts towards increased food production in the country.
