<p>This study explores the association between job satisfaction and turnover intentions among lecturers in three public universities in Tanzania. It had three objectives: (1) to determine the level of perceived job satisfaction among lecturers; (2) to determine the association between job satisfaction and turnover intention; and (3) to determine the extent to which lecturers’ job satisfaction and turnover intention differs by sex, age and work experience. Data were collected using questionnaires and analysed using SPSS version 20.0. A total of 66 public university lecturers participated in the study by filling in the questionnaires. The findings showed that these lecturers were highly satisfied with all facets of their job. There was a significant negative relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention among the lecturers, whereby those who were highly satisfied were less likely to have an intention to leave their job. Also, there were significant differences in job satisfaction in relation to age and work experience. On the other hand, the turnover intention differs significantly by sex whereby the male lecturers had a greater intention to leave their job than their female counterparts. We suggest that for the universities to have highly innovative, motivated and productive teaching staff, job satisfaction should be given considerable attention.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> Job satisfaction, Turnover intention, Public universities, Tanzania</p>Jaqueline AmaniAneth Komba

<p>We studied staff class size, job satisfaction and morale in some secondary schools in Cross River State, Nigeria. The relevant variables of teacher class size and workload were used as independent variables while the dependent variables were students’ academic performance, teacher satisfaction and morale. Out of the total population of 2,100 teachers from 165 secondary schools in the State, 600 teachers from 60 secondary schools were sampled for the study using stratified random sampling. Teachers class size and work load were correlated with students’ academic performance in NECO examinations in English Language and Mathematics on the basis of schools while the relationship between teachers’ class size, workload and extent of their task accomplishment, their satisfaction and morale were correlated on the basis of individual teachers. Smaller class sizes had positive direct relationship with student’s academic performance. A reduction in teacher workload positively influenced teacher’s productivity and students’ performance. In contrast, high teacher’s class size and workload negatively influenced job satisfaction and morale. Government and proprietors of schools should recruit competent teachers to reduce the inverse relationship between teacher demand and supply.</p>JA UndieAda Joan Nike

<p>Leadership style in an organization is one of the factors that play significant role in enhancing or retarding the interest and commitment of the individuals in the organization. A good leader not only inspires subordinates potentials to enhance efficiency but also meets their requirements in the process of achieving organizational or academic goals. The population of the study comprised of 300 respondents who were selected through simple random sampling technique from Okitipupa Local Government, this comprised of 250 teachers and 50 school principals. Principals’ Leadership Assessment Inventory was administered to the principals with the reliability (PLAI, r= 0.72) and Teachers’ Job Performance Assessment Scale was administered to the teachers with reliability (TJPAS r = 0.86) . Two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data collected were analyzed with correlation statistical analysis. The result shows that there was significant relationship between democratic leadership style and teachers’ job performance (r =.118,N= 300, p<.05 . Significant relationship also existed between autocratic leadership style and teachers’ job performance (r =-314,N = 300, P<.01). Considering the findings of this study, it was recommended that school principals should imbibe a mixture of autocratic and democratic styles of leadership in their school administration in order to enhance better job performance among teachers. As such, principals could use the democratic style of leadership in some occasions. <p>Wellness on a general scale is a major global concern as it is perpendicular to achieving monumental success in a drive towards global health challenges. The health status and wellbeing of university students should be a major concern as they constitute young adolescent population and are prone to risky lifestyle. The objective of this study was to carry out exploratory factor analysis of modified structured wellness questionnaire used by university students in pursuit of healthy living. The study explored the orientation, health perspective and practices of the university students to assess the factor loading of the modified structured questionnaire for extraction, reduction and compression into variables. A 20-item questionnaire was administered to 1030 students from four colleges of Afe Babalola University, Nigeria. Analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS – version 17). Principal axis component was conducted on the data and Chronbach Alpha was used to test the internal consistency of the data. The results of factor analysis showed five factors and eliminate five items that loaded below the cut-off points. <p>The study investigated the influence of the utilization of community institutional and community organizational resources on the implementation of adult basic literacy and functional literacy programmes in Cross River State. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The stratified and simple random sampling techniques were adopted to draw a sample of one thousand six hundred and eight subjects from the study population of eight thousand, seventy subjects. Two research instruments were employed for data collection, community institutional resources utilization and community organizational resources utilization questionnaire (CIORUQ) and the adult basic literacy and functional literacy programme implementation questionnaire (ABFLPIQ). One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed for analysis of data. The result of the analysis revealed that utilization of community institutional resources and community organizational resources exerted significant influence on the implementation of both basic adult literacy and functional literacy programmes in Cross River State. <p>Basic educational attainment has proven to be the catalyst to the development of artisans through mentorship and coaching, especially in developing economies. This study sets out to establish the extent to which informal education increases the technical competence of mentees and coaches and makes them self-reliant. The study applied the ex-post facto design to enable it assemble the tools necessary for valid analysis, results and conclusion. Primary data were drawn from the population of tradesmen, artisans and craftsmen, including people engaged in various commercial activities. The ordinary least square regression analysis was used for data analysis. Findings revealed that free and compulsory educations as well as regular visitation of counseling workers are key parameters that sustain the trainees to forge ahead in this direction. It was therefore concluded that free and compulsory education and services of social workers be provided especially from the NGOs and FBOs. The study therefore recommended that free and compulsory education programme for artisans be intensified.
