Abstract

All children in Africa today are affected by the violence that pervades our society. The healthy development of our nation’s children is in serious jeopardy. This article examines current emerging values and ethics held and practiced by schools vis-à-vis traditionally held values, which are gradually becoming extinct in our society. We identify guidance and counseling as proficient central facilitators, which utilize appropriate tools for rendering services. Preventive rather than curative counseling with focus on the home and teachers in schools is emphasized. Appropriate counseling interventions for positive behaviour and attitudes among school pupils are suggested.
