Enhancing Vocational Literacy in the 21st Century
Abstract
The ability of young people to be engaged in the labour market is limited by illiteracy, inadequate training, under-employment and unemployment, rural-urban migration and other dismal conditions. Vocational literacy may be a viable solution as it involves activities essentially aimed at providing the skills, knowledge and attitudes required for employment in a particular occupation and group of related occupations. It is also considered in any field of economic activity or occupation either in or out of school at various levels to sufficiently equip people to become intelligent consumers of goods and services. Here, we discuss vocational literacy training programmes and make recommendations that could maximize their benefits.
