Mots clés: Déchets de briques et tuiles cuites, récupération, clinker, pouzzolanes, pouzzolanicité, ciments, mortiers
ABSTRACT:- The pozzolanic activity of waste fired bricks and tiles from three production units in and around Yaounde were studied. The raw materials (lateritic clays) of the wastes are kaolinitic and of low plasticity. The clays calcined at 800 °C and the wastes, crushed to fine powders of Ø<32 µm were tested for their pozzolanicity using the Chapelle method. All the samples gave positive results, B1 from Nsimeyong was the most pozzolanic waste. A reactive volcanic scoria used by a local cement factory (CIMENCAM) when subjected to the same test presented a lower pozzolanicity. Wastes crushed to Ø<100µm (with 38 – 48 % particles <50 µm) were used to replace 5 to 20 % of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in mortars. The pozzolanic activity index at 28 days obtained by replacing 10 to 20 % CPA 45 (CIMENCAM's OPC) with pozzolana (waste A1, B1 and C1) in mortars are respectively 77 , 96 , 95 % and 67 , 84 , 67 %. These values were higher than those for the volcanic scoria, respectively 77 % and 57 %, for 10 and 20 % replacements. According to ASTM C 618, the pozzolanic activity index with ordinary Portland cement should have 75 % as a minimum of the control at 28 days.
