The development of multi-camp systems on a farm in the southern Orange Free State.
Abstract
The evolution of multi-camp schemes from non-selective grazing to short duration grazing management on the farm "Hillside" in the False Karoo in the Southern Orange Free State is described. The return of rare and unknown grasses and bushes is discussed. The conclusion is made that grazing management with multi-camp schemes is useful in counteracting varying climatic conditions and in producing a grass cover in adverse years and during cycles of "bush rain" seasons.
