Perspective:

Economic models of pastoral land tenure

RH Behnke

Abstract

Reviews some existing economic models of pastoral land tenure, and identifies what appear to be the reasons for their appeal to policy makers. Puts forward an alternative model which can more precisely account for the organization of pastoral tenure systems and which suggests new ways of managing African rangeland. Illustrates with graphs
