The future for radical veld improvement in South Africa

Abstract

A map of the Republic of South Africa is presented in which the area is sub-divided into regions, zones and grassland-use units on the basis of the suitability for various intensities of grassland farming. Twelve percent of the area is classified as suitable for veld replacement, 23% as suitable for veld reinforcement and the remaining 65% as suitable for improvement only through veld management.
