Effect of Toloposogo Creativity Technique in the Reduction of Psychopathological Behaviours among Some Adolescents in Nigerian Prisons
Abstract
This study examined the effects of TO-LO-PO-SO-GO creativity technique in the reduction of psychopathological behaviours of some adolescents in Nigerian Prisons. Sixty adolescent prisoners randomly selected from Ikoyi Lagos and Abeokuta prisons whose ages ranged from 18-21 with a mean of 19.5 were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. However, only 27 out of the 30 participants in the experimental group finished the exercise while 29 out of the 30 participants in the control group completed the programme. The treatment lasted for six weeks of twelve sessions. The participants responded to section D (Psychopathological Behavioural Scale) in the Adolescent Personal Data Inventory. The results indicated that the psychopathological behavioural scores of treated participants greatly reduced compared with the control groups. On the basis of the finding, it was suggested that Nigerian Prisoners should be exposed to creativity skills through which their psychopathological behaviours would be reduced and they would become better citizens after incarceration.
