Globalization and Development: A Critical Overview of Nigeria's Technological Infrastructure in the Globalized World
Abstract
Globalization as a worldwide phenomenon has affected every nation of the world either positively or negatively. Since the inception of the current democratic administration, and in line with global trends, government has embarked on reform programmes at promoting private sector participation in economic activity, as well as deregulation with emphasis power, telecommunication and downstream sub-sectors. By focusing critically on technological infrastructural development but exclusively on energy, power and telecommunication sub-sectors, this paper argues that Nigeria is still very far removed from measuring up to the requirements for economic development in the globalized world. However, the paper concludes by suggesting that government has the primary responsibility of providing technological infrastructures that will engender investments and economic development in view of abundant human and natural resources available in the country.
