Dance for health: A disclosure
Abstract
International approaches to promote health through physical activity need improvement. Such approaches have tended to follow a popular model, espoused in economically developed countries, of boxing and selling new fashion, natural scientific and/or evidence based physical activity packages, rather than utilising and optimising time honoured naturally occurring behaviours. This article was inspired by the relatively neglected potential of dance as a means of promoting health. Its central theme is of dance as a multicultural expression of human movement, with valuable expressive therapeutic and public health implications.
