Laparoscopic insertion of lumbar peritoneal shunts for idiopathic intracranial hypertension
Abstract
Background: The treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension varies from simple observation to the mechanical diversion of cerebrospinal fluid.
Objective: To describe our technique and initial experience with the laparoscopic insertion of lumbarperitoneal shunts.
Conclusion: Lumbarperitoneal shunts should be preferentially inserted into the peritoneum via laparoscopy rather than via the (locally) more prevalent mini-laparotomy.
