Author Guidelines
The African Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics (AJND) is a prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journal committed to advancing the knowledge and practice of nutrition and dietetics within the unique context of Africa. Our journal serves as a platform for disseminating cutting-edge research, comprehensive reviews, and scholarly articles focused on various facets of nutrition, dietetics, and their profound influence on public health in the African continent. To ensure the highest scientific standards are met, we provide detailed author guidelines to aid in manuscript preparation and submission to AJND.
Manuscript Preparation
Title Page
The title page serves as the gateway to your manuscript, and it should encompass the following key elements:
Title: Craft a succinct and informative title that accurately reflects the manuscript's core theme.
Author(s): Provide complete names, affiliations, and contact details (including email addresses) for all authors.
Corresponding Author: Clearly designate the corresponding author and furnish their contact information.
Abstract: Construct a structured abstract (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) with a
maximum word limit of 250 words. This section should briefly encapsulate the essence of your research.
Main Text
The main text should be carefully structured to facilitate clarity and comprehension and should consist of the following sections:
Introduction
In the introduction, offer a concise yet comprehensive overview of the research problem. Clearly delineate the study objectives and highlight its relevance within the African context, providing context and motivation for the study.
Methods
The methods section is the foundation of your research. Describe the research methodology in meticulous detail, encompassing study design, participant selection criteria, data collection procedures, and statistical analysis methods. Pay special attention to ethical considerations, including institutional review board approvals and informed consent procedures.
Results
Systematically present your research findings using tables, figures, and textual explanations as necessary. Ensure that the presentation is logically structured and avoids redundancy between the text and accompanying visual aids.
Discussion
Interpret your findings within the broader context of existing literature. Address the implications and potential applications of your research within the field of nutrition and dietetics in Africa. This section should engage with previous research and demonstrate how your work contributes to the advancement of knowledge.
Conclusion
Summarize the main findings succinctly and underscore their significance. Provide clear and actionable recommendations for future research and practical applications within the African nutrition and dietetics landscape.
References
Follow a recognized citation style (APA) for reference formatting. Ensure that all cited sources are from reputable scientific journals, books, or authoritative publications. The reference list should be comprehensive and accurate.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
Manuscript Submission
Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts electronically through the AJND online submission system. Ensure that all manuscript files are in Word format and include all required elements (title page, abstract, main text, figures, and tables). Additionally, authors should adhere to the following submission guidelines:
Affirm that the manuscript is an original work that has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere.
Provide any supplementary materials, such as datasets, if applicable.
Disclose any conflicts of interest or funding sources explicitly.
