Pre-retirement education programme for Nigerian army personnel
Abstract
This study examines and describes the need for pre-retirement education programme for Nigerian Army personnel in 1 Mechanised Division, Kaduna. An investigation was carried out into the contents of such pre-retirement programme. A sample of 78 male and female army personnel was purposively selected from the population of army personnel in 1 Division, Kaduna. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered with the aid of a self-designed Pre-Retirement Education Questionnaire (PREQ). The results reveal that issues of concern to the Nigerian Army Personnel in pre-retirement education programme were commercial activities, money management, investment opportunities, education, craftsmanship, caring for children and so on. Majority of the respondents reported that they were willing to participate in any organized pre-retirement education programme in the future. The implications of the findings are discussed.
