Properties of glucoside 3-dehydrogenase and its potential applications
Abstract
Glucoside 3-dehydrogenase, one of the glucose redoxidases, is perhaps known for the vital role it plays in converting a series of sugars to their corresponding 3-ketoglucosides. Glucoside 3-dehydrogenase has attracted considerable attention in recent years due to broad substrate specificity and excellent regioselectivity. Glucoside 3-dehydrogenase is a FAD-enzyme, which is capable of oxidizing glucosides and galactosides to their corresponding 3-ketoglycosides, due to the enzyme’s site-selective oxidation of the C-3 hydroxyl group. These 3-ketoglucosides are useful as building blocks for chemicals such as detergents and polymers.
