The Distribution of Power in Ugandan Society

V Vasher

Abstract

Understanding the dynamics of various forms of societal power is  important when analysing change in a society. This article seeks to develop a model that aids in analysing the distribution of four types of societal power: political, economic, citizen, and cultural. Each of these types of power is acquired through different processes. These processes are described in this article.  Following the description of the  model, the model is used to analyse Ugandan society under Museveni. The analysis reveals that Museveni has acquired broad systemic power that portends negatively for any possible changes in power to occur. Given the level of centralization of power with Museveni, the likelihood of transferring power to citizens through peaceful means is unlikely.
