The Role of South Africa in African Continental Integration: The View of the Zimbabwean State, Capital and Civil Society
Abstract
This work analyses South Africa’s role in African continental integration as viewed by the representatives of the Zimbabwean state, capital and civil society. Their view is that South Africa should play a leading role in this continental project. It is also their view that the structural transformation of the South African economy is of strategic importance to the success of this. Africa’s collective efforts are critical for external actors not to be successful in subordinating the project to their needs and interests. The representatives of the Zimbabwean state, capital and civil society do not view South Africa as a sub-imperialist power in the continent.
