Abstract
Background: The distribution of hair in the dorsal aspect of the hand digits were investigated in this study.
Aim: To determine dorsal phalengeal hair pattern in an African ethnic group.
Methods: The study involved 160 male and 140 female of Urhobo volunteers whose ages ranged between 18 and 38 years.
Results: Hair was absent in the proximal phalanx of 16.21% of females and in 13.68% of males. The order of frequency of hair over the proximal phalange of the fingers was 3 >4>5>2 in the studied subjects. No hair was observed over the distal phalanges.
