Reattachment of fractured tooth fragment: A case report

YO Ajayi

Abstract

The treatment of a fractured incisor in 29-year-old female with a four months history of broken upper incisors following a fall from a motor bike by re-attachement of the tooth fragments was reported. The presenting complaint was lack of aesthetics and discomfort from the fractured tooth. There was no history of pain. Oral examination revealed an uncomplicated crown fracture of the maxillary right and left central incisors, horizontal fracture on the labial aspect of the left maxillary central incisor as well as an oblique fracture palatally with the fractured fragment of the left central incisor still remained attached by gingival palatally. A light curing composite resin using total etch technique was used to re-attached the tooth fragments. Patient was satisfied with the outcome of the restorative treatment. Natural tooth shade and shape was maintained. One year post-operatively, the maxillary central incisor is still asymptomatic and functional.
